Reforma - "Salas Cachimbo": dicas | Renovation - "Pipe Livings": tips

"Pipe living" - straightening nearby the window and the built-in shelter that'll receive mirrors to enlarge the area.

Often seen in Copacabana, the pipe living room receives this name due to it's shape.

More light through mirrors and lighter woods. Contemporany objects to constrast with old relics

Often built at last century’s second half ,  the “pipe living rooms”  were those where the window used to be set in a small part of the room called “winter’s garden”, as it used to be fashion to keep delicate plants, play piano or even read in those areas. Soon people realized that this “charm” – have a cozy area nearby the window – could represent some damages to the place’s environment: low luminosity, Wind circulation deficiency and the closing up sensation. Decades later, the obsession for balconies at Rio de Janeiro’s  came strongly back again, taking out of scene these kind of living room at all.

As a result of the increasing prices of Copacabana and Rio at all, and the natural aging/passing of the first generation of Copacabana habitants - between their 70 to 90 years old - the most famous neighborhood  of Brasil is passing through a whole process of modernization and changing of the stereotype of it's habitants. In the specific case of this apartment that we show next, the larger goal of the project was bring light to the "pipe living" by renovating a built-in shelter that was already placed there: It was suggested to put a mirror at it's back to pretend that there was more room behind of it. It also'd have it's wood painted on paint pump technique and 2 new doors built in sliding wood structure with glasses and brises to stock up family's crystals and glasses.

Another thing was to place a mirror just beside de window, to make up that it has the double of the size.
In the end the project wanted to connect old existing family's relics contrasted with contemporary objects, letting it with a fresh and updated look. Take a look on the preliminary study to see what we expect it to end up as.
